Tomasz Drewicz – “Undermining”
(sculptural installation – own technique)
2024
With this project I pose a question to the viewer about the delicate balance we undertake every day, balancing between what has passed and the burden of responsibility that we constantly carry. The work oscillates between literalness and metaphor: although the object seems to “weigh” transience and sacrifice, it also subtly asks about the limits of endurance and how much weight we are really able to bear.
In „Undermining”, passing appears not only as an act of physical destruction, but also as a continuous process of loss and fragility of memory. The artist invites us to reflect on the burden of memories – those which, although they often seem too heavy, are also ephemeral and fleeting. There is a game here at the limit of possibilities; Drewicz draws attention to how much we are ready to sacrifice to maintain the illusion of control over time, and at the same time forces us to ask the question: is what we carry our strength? or a burden?
The work subtly oscillates between humor and reflection, revealing the ironic tension between what is important and what can easily slip away from us. Drewicz seems to be saying that even if we find the perfect balance, the truth about transience will always find a way to get out of control.
